IMPRINT: The Dusty Chronicles by BJ Sheldon

I had the immense pleasure of beta reading Imprint: The Dusty Chronicles by BJ Sheldon; this is book 2 of The Dusty Chronicles series.  Let me tell you–I couldn’t put in down. I was impressed with book 1, Haunting, and Ms. Sheldon delivered a great sequel.

About the book:

Genre: YA Paranormal Romance
Publication Date: June 4, 2014

Imprint is Book Two of “The Dusty Chronicles”, the sequel to BJ Sheldon’s award-winning debut novel, Haunting. Imprint follows Dusty and Jack through the next stage of their doomed romance.

Sixteen-year-old Dusty Vermeer starts off another school year as Mark Schutt’s girlfriend. At the same time, she continues to hide her feelings for Jack Olson, the ghost who haunts her heart. Other entities make an appearance, and Dusty begins to wonder if seeing ghosts has become a permanent part of her future. Tragic past events resurface and imprint themselves in Dusty’s world. When Jack is ripped from her arms and imprisoned in a dark void, his absence is more than she can bear.

An invisible enemy grows increasingly violent, and Dusty’s health and well-being deteriorate. When she tries to discover what it is that hides in the shadows, Dusty must turn to her family for help and convince her loved ones that she is not insane. Ultimately, she must battle evil, accept her fate and grieve for a love that she was never allowed to keep.

Despite all of the changes that Sadie and Dad had made, it was still the same place where I nearly lost my life. And the same place I had witnessed the extent of Jack’s love for me. He protected me the best he could. If he’d been alive himself, he would have taken that bullet for me.

It became apparent to me that night that I was doomed…no matter what. Jack and I would never truly be together, but I loved him regardless. The thought of not getting to spend the rest of my life with him was devastating, but just knowing that he felt the same way about me made it all okay somehow.

The panic rose in my chest as I glanced into the corner where Hank had stared into my face one last time. I recalled the hatred and anger in his eyes, and it sent my pulse racing out of control. Everything around me began to spin. I turned and ran from the room.

I stood in the middle of the family room catching my breath. Once again, I had failed to face my fear. The room grew cold, and I felt a chill on my shoulder. Jack had materialized behind me. I turned around. It never ceased to amaze me that no matter how many times I saw him, he could always take my breath away.

The Fly House by Misty Provencher

Fellow indie author, Misty Provencher’s “The Fly House” is now available.

B&N Fly HouseBLURB:

The Earth’s atmosphere is swiss cheese.  To avoid the oncoming oxygen crisis, black-sheep heiress, Maeve Aypotu, has been chemically suspended in one of the Archive’s plush, multi-million dollar chambers, located underground.  Scientists claim they can patch everything up in about 15 years, so, just to be safe, the Archive programmed the chambers to open in 17 years.

And then, everything on Earth went wrong.

Up on the surface, Pluto has taken control of the planet, scorching away all signs of human civilization and reconstructing the environment to suit the Plutian’s lucrative dragon trade.  Humans that survived weree forced to be laborers, divided into five Houses, each handling a different stage of the dragon harvest.  Survival and repopulation have become a currency among the Houses.  To make matters worse, Rha Diem, the rugged leader of the Fly House, has gotten word that the cost of existence just rose to a price that no human should have to pay.  And now there is a whole Archive of survivors that will be expected to pay too.

Learning to trust one another may need to start small—with the fusion of one powerful Rha and one bad ass black sheep—before a damaged race can even hope to regain control of their alien Earth.

Maeve laid her head on his chest, feeling the lazy drag of his fingers through her hair.  His heart beat strong and steady below her ear.  She was so suddenly lost in this man, it was frightening.  The grip on her own independence slipped.  She knew she would give him whatever he wanted of her.  Everything.  Anything.  All of it.  It meant that he could destroy her, if he desired; she would give him that ability too.   It overwhelmed her.  His presence rendered her muscles incapable of moving away from him.

“This is what weakness is like,” she whispered, more to herself than to him, but his fingers paused.

“No,” his tone was soft, but disapproving.  “This is what trust is like.”
